Earth Day for Aquariums

Here’s an example of how to celebrate Earth Day while being an aquarium owner.

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.

Upside down fish tank, nice aquarium

Check this video out. Nice concept for an upside down fish tank. The music is pretty funny for a video such as this. Why not something more relaxing?

The Fish Highway

Fish Highway SiteThere are a few photos floating around the net right now regarding a pipeline fish tank, or a fish highway. The fish highway is a concept that uses suction to elevate water out of a fish tank into an upper container.

I also recently posted a video of an open bottom aquarium that uses pretty much the exact same type of concept, just executed differently. This is interesting stuff.

As an aquarium hobbyist, I would actually rather not delve into this type of setup myself. There seems to be a decent amount of risk for a water spill. And when the water spills, there will be a lot of water spilling. I have a hard enough time maintaining a simple 75 gallon tank.

Read more about the fish highway here. Also of particular interest is the patent on the fish highway concept that is available on the site.
